Black Hills State Wrestling?

Postby stins » Sat Apr 28, 2012 9:11 am

I just heard that BHSU in Spearfish is starting up a wrestling program. It is scheduled to start this season or next. Does anyone else have any details? Sounds like another great choice for our kids that want to stay close to home. Thoughts?

I have not heard anything about this but if it's true I think it will be great.
Where can I find information on this? Do you know what division they would be in?
I will sure support this cause' you know if you can't be an athlete---be an athletic supporter! haha

It sounded like it was about to happen just a few years ago, while they were still NAIA.. and they were looking to add both mens and womens. I might be wrong, but I heard that it is now a dead issue and will not be happening with their recent move to NCAA Division 2.

I am a graduate of BHSU and I have heard, from numerous friends still in the area, that this is likely happening. The word is that wrestling is being added and will start this coming year (or the next). Apparently, they are adding women's soccer so another men's sport will also be added. Supposedly, that sport is wrestling. It will be great to have another DII program in the region.

My daughter graduated from Black Hills State (awesome college!) so I thought I'd find out by going to the source. Here is a copy of the email I got back.

Leslie,

Thank you for your interest in BHSU and Yellow Jacket Athletics. To address your question regarding collegiate wrestling, Unfortunately, we do not plan to add wrestling at BHSU in the near future.
