As there is only a month left in the hs wrestling season it is time to talk about Fargo 2012. For those that don’t know what Fargo it is a National Freestyle/Greco wrestling tournament that takes place during an eight day tournament (July 13-21). There will be a Wyoming Jr state Freestyle/Greco tournament on March 2, 3 in Douglas Wy. This tournament is for Jrs so that is any wrestler that turns 17 this calendar year and graduating hs seniors. Top four placers in each weight qualify for the team. Cadets may wrestle in this tournament but must be hs freshman in hs. However they can’t qualify for the Cadet team by wrestling in this tournament. Cadets qualifying tournament will be during the Kids/Cadets state tournament May 4, 5.
For those that make the team there will be a 6 day team camp with all the Cadets as well. Camp will be held in Douglas, Wy as well from July 7-12. Camp will be mandatory only exceptions will be family emergencies or wrestling camps. The practices will be twice a day and probably 2hrs long. Athletes and Coaches will stay with host families during the camp. During the tournament we will either stay on campus in the dorms or at a hotel which we are trying to pull off if possible.
The cost for this team will be $800-$900. This will cover the entire cost for the trip which is transportation to tournament and back, uniform, food and lodging at tournament, team picture, and entry fee into tournament. The athletes will only need to bring only spending money for souvenirs and whatever else they think they can’t live without I would say $200-$300 for the whole two weeks.
This is a good time to become a better wrestler and to get to know other wrestlers throughout the state. Zac and I hope to have a big team this year. Last year we had I think 15 Cadets and 24 Juniors. We can have up to 45 total wrestlers for jrs and 51 total wrestlers for cadets with up to four wrestlers in a weight class.
Any questions or concerns you can contact myself Shaun Carothers (Jr Director), Zac Helgeson (Cadet Director). Also you can ask Joe Hatley and Kevin Dillon they have been part of this national team for several years and can answer any questions or direct you to myself or Zac.
