I don''t think the boos from the Douglas section were directed at Olie, as much as, the fact he was not made to wrestle. 28 shots to 2 shots!

Specifically, Powell, Douglas and Star Valley fans acted in a very disappointing manner-especially in the finals. When Stine won and waved to the Worland crowed, the boos from the Star Valley section drowned out the cheers. When Burgener scored in the last second to beat Andrews (granted, it was a questionable score from my viewpoint) the Powell section reacted with all sorts of obscenities and even throwing objects onto the floor. And when Olsen beat Read, the boos from the Douglas section were overwhelming.

I understand that those three teams were in a heated battle for the championship, but I thought the fans were there to support these student athletes? The other team may have won, but there is no need to boo a kid for doing so. Simply clap and show your support for all the hours and hard work these kids have put into winning a state championship. There was no display of "Join the Ride" from those three teams.

I will now get off my soapbox and go back to my corner.

I think what you may have seen is booing of particular calls by refs. in some of those matches, In Andrews/Burgener particularly effecting an outcome of a year of anticipation....not the kids, they wrestled great but I have noticed this year more calls that the refs inserted themselves into at the also seconds of the matches. Very Unfortunate for some and Fortunate for others. And yes I am a Powell fan....part of the fight is the natural struggle and Douglas and Powell enjoy this fight over the years..I was on the floor later I observed several of the kids from both teams and coaches both conversing with no issues,,,,,,,,I respect Douglas, and Star Valley really stepped up.

I am a Powell fan. My daughter witnessed something get thrown onto the floor after that match. she says that it did not come from the Powell section It came from the section over, she did not know the person who threw it, so don't blame Powell on that one.

I couldnt agree with you more lando: it is remarkable when "Stine" won and yes the "Star Valley Fans boo'ed him- he was only waving to the Worland fans because of his 3- time state championship. And then again the Powell section acting like little children when Andrews lost- Its sad that we try to tell our kids in school and sports to be sportsman and the parents are acting like this "Powell You Should Be Ashamed of Yourself.

I am quite embarrased on how people acted at this tournament!!!

I was sitting on the floor right in front of the Powell section and had that bottle fly right over my head. No, I did not see who threw it, but based on the trajectory of the object, I made a scientific assumption that it came from a Powell fan, so for that I apologize. But let me just ask-Star Valley had no dog in that fight, why would they throw something?

This is exactly my point. It is about the competitors. They have the utmost admiration for each other-the fans should be supportive of their achievements and don't take away from their moment by taking out their frustration with the ref's calls.

This was my first state wrestling championship I've in Wyoming. I was very impressed and look forward to three more years of watching my son and all the other student athletes. Now I didn't mean to just pointing fingers at those three teams. I am sure if I were in the 2A or 4A sections I would have witnessed some of the same behaviors. However, my post was just expressing my disappointment towards the fans I witnessed...............that's all. And with that, I would like to congratulate all the kids for an amazing weekend and thank you for your efforts.

Objects thrown on the floor multiple times during the tournament. Not Cool at all.

Sportsmanship by our athletes is required and expected. Our fans must follow suit. I think this is a parent issue. Adults booing just leads to kids doing the same,or worse yet, throwing objects that almost change outcomes of matches.

Grow up.

I don't support the rude responses from the fans, but it is easy to understand how their emotions can get the best of them when the ones that are changing a lot of the outcomes are the ones in black and white!!!
And I am not talking about a mistake! What is happening is blatent control of the score from the ref!
And its pretty obvious that you just got it handed to you when within 1 minute of the matchs end both of the refs were high fiving and hugging the wrestler and his parents!!!
It's obvious that if your dad is a ref then some of the other refs will help to ensure that your boy will get the calls that he needs to help him along!!

I agree that parents are involving themselves way too much. I witnessed a parent of a 4A wrestler almost fall over the railing while yelling at a coach of another team after their son's match. Also the amount of parents that are on the floor during their son's match. Why have coaches when the kids are looking in the stands at their dad during each break in the match. I think some parents try harder to get themselves on the floor during their match then their son does during the actual match. I wish some parents would realize how embarrassing it is for them and their son when they act like this.

Oh man, those are some pretty serious acquisitions that you're making right there.

The accusations may be serious but I did witness some of it happen. Problem to me is there were times where the quality of wrestling was outmatched by the guys making the calls. Part of the sport, yes. Doesn't mean we have to like it. A good charged up crowd is what makes the atmosphere great.
