2012 WyoWrestling All-State Awards Presentation

Postby CoWrestler » Wed Feb 08, 2012 2:42 pm

We will be awarding the rings to the recipients of the Academic All-State and All-State Wrestling team members at the conclusion of the tournament. We intend to have a booth on the upper level and will give out the awards at that location on an individual basis. Any wrestler who is eligible, should visit our booth after the conclusion of the tournament to obtain their award.

This will reduce a great deal of the fan fare with which we usually make the awards known, but I will explain the history below.

Last year we presented the awards at the youth tournament on Sunday. This created the problem of wrestlers having to stay the night in Casper. Some could not. We have been informed by the youth tournament organizer that we are not welcome to return as they had complaints that their tournament ended too late, so they felt they could not afford to have our ceremony during their tournament.

In 2010 we held our awards ceremony on the Events Center floor after the state finals. WHSAA told us that because they feared other entities asking them to present awards, they could not accommodate us any more. Frankly they became hostile towards us after that. I suppose that they felt chastised that they were not supporting their mission statement to promote academics with athletics. Who knows?

Thats a bunch of B.S. I cant belive that WSHAA would not be proud to be part of this award. Its not like they have to put out any money or effort. I think it is shameful.

As poorly run as the whsaa is, it doesn't surprise me that they would be daunted by the well oiled machine that WyoWrestling has become. The NATIONAL recognition that our boys are getting with the time and effort from the guys from this site is amazing! Thanks guys for what you do.

Refresh my memory please.. is there an application for the (non-academic) All-State Awards?

A few questions for you WyoWrestling.com fans.

Do you really care about these awards? Are they too "Over the Top."

Meaning should we just give a plaque or a certificate? Jackets and rings may be too much. (I thought everyone liked them, but one never knows about awards).

Is it too much to ask to have a ceremony? Will our current plan for this year work?

If you have been a past recipient of our awards or a parent of a wrestler who has received an award, you need to weigh in now because I am sick and tired of not getting support for something that John has busted his tail for the past 3 years. John Bear in 3 years has done more for the promotion of wrestling and academics in terms of media coverage in this state than any other entity that I know. Please give me an example who has done more. John, Shane and I have done the rankings that ALL MEDIA use, but rarely give credit for.

When a person Google searches Wyoming wrestling we are the first to pop up. We have showcased your wrestler and gave him the props and the rankings so that college coaches can research for recruiting. At Fargo I personally saw coaches looking up OUR site to scout just how tough one of our Wyoming wrestlers were or search state tournament results. WE ARE NON-PROFIT, John and the rest of our board secure donations to get YOUR wrestlers awards that are timeless and worthwhile. OH and JUST so YOU understand. WE ARE THE ONLY MEDIA ORGANIZATION THAT IS COMMITTED TO RECOGNIZING YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE. We award academics first. We care about your wrestler and his well being after he leaves the Event Center for that last time.

Our Forum that you are reading this on gets 8000-9000 hits daily. The forum is for YOU to discuss wrestling and it is how you keep in touch with what is new in our state. It is the best forum in the state for any sport out there, and you know it.

I have had enough with apathy. PUT UP OR SHUT UP.

You would think that for all that we have done we wouldn't have to be treated in such a manner. Our state's best deseve the best and we have done that for 2 years now we need help. That's it.

I love your sight. The boys on our team look forward to the rankings and are pumped when they make it on. I love the forum. It brings a lot of excitement for tournaments and also gives a lot of information on wrestlers that I don't get to watch wrestle but look forward to seeing at state or some of the bigger tournaments. I love the forum even though no one voted for my son to win the Ron Thon. Hahaha. I appreciate all the work you guys do and I am sure I do not understand how much work it is. My nephew wrestles in Montana and they are envious of this sight, but they regularly look to see how Lovell is doing. I missed the awards last year and I think it was nice to see those in 2010 at state. Our kids work hard, wrestling is hard and there should be some ways to show off their success and give them something to shoot for, helps motive. When my son was a freshman it was awesome to see those rewards brought out while at state. Just a side note and anyone who has seen the state medals knows what I am talking about, those state medals are small and while it is not all about the medal it is a bit of a let down. I don't care how late it was. We look forward to this all year and it only comes around once a year. However you can get it worked out, I think it is worth it and it makes wrestling that much more exciting. Thanks!

If most people are like me we hate to write checks anymore. Is there anyway you could set something up on this site to donate online to it? I will put the first $25.00 in and I'm sure other people would if it is easier to do. You would only need 60 of us to do it and you'd make up your deficit.

What do you think?

Joe,
Set up a PayPal account for WyoWrestling. I'd be glad to throw a few dollars into the hat as well

First off SHAME on WHSAA for not letting us do these awards during the State tournament. I was there the first year and enjoyed watching the kids getting these awards (jackets) and showing them off the next day at the youth wrestling tournament. It is terrible that they can't find the time during this tournament to do something that is really important to the kids. Secondly I really like Headhunters idea, and I'm sure in for 25.00. I will challenge everybody that I talk to every weekend about the wyowrestling site to do the same. Please lets not put this off any longer, we all need to help support this site that we all love! Keep up the great work guys, you are all awesome.
