Fargo 2012

You need to start training NOW... to be successful this July. Running is good, but working on your turns and defensive skills will get you to the podium.

a good step to getting your kids ready would be to take a team to jr duals in oklahoma. i have always wondered why a state with such good numbers for fargo doesnt take a team to oklahoma city.

Well Cornfed it is like this we never can get a FULL 2 teams (Cadet and JR) to go. To get kids to fundraise for Fargo and the Duals is too much.

I was talking with an old Torrington coach 3 weeks ago and he told me that where he is now they are fully funded for the duals by their state and the kids raise money for Fargo. That option would work for us is our state had more money in the coffers but alas, they do not.

So we just lend out our studs to the nearby states ;} ....

it costs us 400/wrestler for jr duals but that includes 2 singlets, jacket, bag , shirt and socks. then fargo costs us 500/wrestler for camp, the fargo trip and gear. kids are responsible for their own meals. you do get a credit for the gear if you have it from jr duals. i havent seen the books but i know we get some subsidizing from our state to help keep cost down some. we have trouble getting our best to go since nebraska usually has 3 disney duals teams and the maine exchange that month. it would help your top kids get ready for fargo. 14-16 high level matches in 4 days really shows your weak spots.

I would say that your structure would work for us if we could get solid committments from our wrestlers to wrestle in TWO tourneys, however, it doesn't seem that the majority of our guys want to give that much time to summer wrestling. A shame really, since all data that is out there shows it will get kids that extra UMPHHH to win in the winter. We do have some exceptions here but I suspect they are at least going to camps. Rarely does a kid put his wrestling shoes in the closet all offseason and then go on and win a state title in February.

This Olympic cycle may reinvigorate our wrestling youth towards wrestling greco and freestyle. I can only hope.

any of the kids that have been to jr duals want back on the team. its a blast. we struggle with fargo since it is such a grind that most skip it. i believe we took 6 cadets and 3 juniors to fargo last year. we had a champ and 3 other kids aa but no numbers. we struggle to even have a respectable camp for fargo with our numbers. we need to get the panhandle annexed into wyoming and i will organize the wyo dual team;) we hate driving 450 miles to omaha for everything.

I can bring up your idea to Shaun and Zac and see what we can do. Honestly I believe getting the parents more on board with this and have them encourage their wrestlers to do it is paramount for participation. Prying the Playstation controller from Little Johnny's hands is hard to do these days...

Not only do we have kids that have to raise money for Fargo and duals if there is a team put together. Kids also have to raise money for cultural exchange as well. So if I was a kid that wanted to do all three you are looking at around $4500. Most the kids that I talked to this year had to chose between fargo or a dual team because of work or $.
